The Experience
You will begin your visit to the Imperial War Museum Duxford, where you'll uncover its vital role during some of the most significant moments of 20th-century history. You can explore the vast hangars and exhibitions within Europe’s largest air museum, housing an impressive collection of aircraft, vehicles, boats, and personal stories.
You will get up close to legendary aircrafts, including the iconic Avro Lancaster Mk.X, Concorde 101, and Vulcan. You can take a glimpse at the three caravans of Field Marshal Bernard ‘Monty’ Montgomery and try on replica military uniforms. Throughout the museum, you’ll hear the moving stories of those who lived and worked at Duxford, told through original films and artefacts.
You will discover Duxford's crucial role in the Battle of Britain, especially by stepping into the hangar used by the fighter squadrons of 1940. The Operations Room features an immersive audio-visual recreation of the battle’s most pivotal day.
Next, explore the American Air Museum, which celebrates the powerful connection between two nations united by war. See rare aircrafts, such as the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird — the world’s fastest and highest-flying air-breathing aircraft — along with powerful stories of wartime heroes like Duke Boswell and Huie Lamb. The museum also features steelwork from the external walls of the World Trade Center and an interactive flight tracker display of the morning of 9/11.
The Land Warfare exhibition offers a display of tanks, artillery, and other military vehicles, while the Air and Sea exhibition takes you on a journey from WWI to the present. Among the displays, you'll see naval aircraft like the A6M Zero, the most successful Japanese fighter of WWII, alongside its American counterpart, the Grumman TBM-3 Avenger.
