The Experience
You will begin your visit by stepping into the splendour of the Royal Apartments and the private family bedrooms within the mansion. There, you can admire the twin desks where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert worked side by side, offering a glimpse into their daily life. then you will continue your exploration to the Durbar Room, a magnificent space adorned with intricate décor, where lavish banquets once took place. The furniture and artifacts within the house tell stories of grand state dinners as well as intimate family meals. While only the lower floor of Osborne House is open for visitors at present, it still provides a rich experience of royal life.
Next you will head down to the Swiss Cottage, where the royal children once played and tended their gardens. In one room, you’ll find it recreated just as it was on 11th July 1861, when the children prepared an afternoon tea for their parents, only months before the tragic death of Prince Albert. The scene captures a poignant moment in time, making this area a special part of the estate’s history.
Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the pleasure gardens, walking amongst historic trees and breathing in the same views enjoyed by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Be sure to visit the Victorian Walled Garden, which remains beautifully maintained. Conclude your day with a visit to the royal family's once-private beach, where Queen Victoria’s bathing machine has been restored, allowing you to imagine the royal family’s seaside retreats in this tranquil and hidden spot.
